About StatementLens
StatementLens is a small, free browser tool for looking at your own bank and card statements. It is made and run by Eddy Hwang, an independent developer, and has no connection to any bank, card issuer or financial institution.
Why it works this way
Some people prefer not to connect a bank login to a third-party service or upload statements to someone else's server; a statement shows where you live, shop and get paid. StatementLens is for that choice: you download the file yourself, and the reading, checking and adding up happen in this browser tab. There is nothing to sign up for, and nothing to delete afterwards except the file in your own Downloads folder.
The second idea is that a total is only as good as the rows behind it. StatementLens asks you to confirm how dates, signs and decimals are written, shows every row it read and every row it could not, and keeps possible duplicates and transfers visible until you decide.
How it was tested
The parsing and arithmetic are covered by automated tests: quoted CSV cells, line breaks inside cells, byte-order marks, semicolon and tab delimiters, unclosed quotes, impossible dates, day-first and month-first dates, comma decimals, brackets for negative numbers, CR and DR markers, split debit and credit columns, exact cent arithmetic, duplicate and transfer candidates, and spreadsheet formula injection in exported files. PDF reading is tested against public fictional samples, including a summary-only statement and an image-only scan that must both be refused.
